A Software Commentary on Homeric Epic Poetry
The paper describes a software commentary of Homeric epic poetry whose purpose is to provide an integrated software environment for literary and linguistic analysis of the epic poems. The environment includes natural language parsing, unified search of metric, morphological and narrative spaces, a glossary, and a hierarchic narrative topology with embedded API for programmatic exploration of the narrative structure. The purpose of the environment is to create an analysis space whereby literary entities such as 'character', 'plot' and 'action' can be explored in the context of an integrated structure which incorporates all levels of the literary text.
