Postmodern belief in a differentiated learning environment focuses instructional attention to individual learning styles and to varying levels of student academic achievement. Applying current learning theory, participants will learn ways for students to maximize their interests, utilize their prior knowledge, and further enhance their socialization skills. Presenters will focus on strategies that will promote higher levels of student achievement to meet diverse student needs. This is an interactive workshop that will provide participants with hands-on activities that can be used within classroom settings.

Dr. Patricia Gillie
Multicultural Studies Coordinator/Adjunct Professor, New Trier High School District 203 and National Louis University
Dr Patricia Gillie received her B.S. Ed. from Western Illinois University, her M.S. Ed. from Northern Illinois University, her ESL Endorsement from National Louis University, and her Ed.D. from Loyola University in Curriculum, Instruction, and Educational Psychology. Her recent research was in the field of language proficiency testing, teacher accountability, and student participation. Her dissertation was nominated by Loyola University for Dissertation of the Year. She is employed by New Trier Township High School in Winnetka, Illinois, and serves as the district Multi-Cultural Coordinator. She also is an adjunct professor at National Louis University.
Dr. Janine Steffen

Dr Janine Steffen received her B.S. in Secondary English Education from Illinois State University, her MAEL in Educational Administration from Aurora University, and her Ed.D. from Loyola University in Curriculum, Instruction, and Educational Psychology. Her recent research was in the field of adolescent reading and student-involved classroom assessment. She is employed by Community Unit School District 300 in Hampshire, Illinois, and serves as the building Curriculum Coordinator. She is also an adjunct professor at Webster University.
