Protecting Humanism: Islamic Perspective on the Rulings of War

Currently the world has been witnessing that war has taken place all over the world whether it has been justified or not. This calamity has affected human values of freedom, brotherhood and respecting of each other. What is about the captives and victims of the war? All religions and nations have their own perspective involving war. This perspective might be different from one to another. As for Islam it is basically against war and bloodshed. However in an exceptional circumstance, the war is unavoidable because it could be used as a mean to cut off the struggle between two disputing parties. This invites us to know what are the rulings concerning war. The aim of this paper is twofold. Firstly to raise some issues regarding the ruling of war as propounded by Islam and secondly to reflects the human values protected in Islam during war thus showing Islamic concern of humanities.

I am 36 years old, married and have four children. My first degree was from al-Azhar University in Cairo in 1991, M.Litt from St Andrews Univ. in 1995 and Phd from Edinburgh Univ. in 2000. Attached to International Islamic University Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur since 1992 and upon completing my PhD has been teaching in different subjects at the Dept of Qur'an and Sunnah. Currently is an Assistant Professor at the Dept. Have published few referred article in international journals.
